EDUCATION AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Through the provision of qualitative holistic yet affordable education that targets the development of the mind, ACDF is building the capacity of young people across Africa to orientate them towards development thinking. In this regard, ACDF runs the “low-fee” Citizens Colleges based in Epe, Lagos State; Port-Novo, Republic of Benin; and Ogba-Ikeja, Lagos. These colleges are components of the Foundation’s Youth Development Programme. They are meant to offer qualitative private secondary education to eligible African children irrespective of social class or cultural disparity. The ultimate goal is to replicate Citizens Colleges (CITICOLL) in all parts of the continent as the African Citizens’ College for the development of incorruptible African future leaders. ACDF derives her membership from the students of the CITICOLLs. They are registered as student members at the point of admission and inducted Life – Members at graduation.
In addition, ACDF plans to organize regularly the annual ACDF Youth Conference geared at monitoring the development of its Life - Members and to prepare them for the huge vacuum of leadership lacking in the continent.
AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
To address the issue of food security/sovereignty by re-orientating people back to agriculture in a mono-economy, ACDF established ASSEFAD in 1998.
ASSEFAD is the acronym of the African Society for Shelter, Education, Food and Agricultural Development. It is an arm of the Foundation that educates and assists farmers to develop agricultural skills and by extension foster sustainable rural growth. ASSEFAD plan to lighten up the rural communities and encourage unemployed citizens in the urban cities to return to the rural centres for agriculture and rural development. ASSEFAD has established in 2006, a 100 Hectares farm village in Ogun State of Nigeria as; ASSEFAD Millennium Village (ASSEMVILLA) and more that fifty farmers, men and women are accredited for crop farming and processing of farm produce in the village
CAPACITY BUILDING
To develop human capacity to foster real development as only developed individuals/citizens can actually take charge of their families, communities and nation as well as regional development. To facilitate this programme, ACDF organizes the African Citizens Forum in May, 2004 and other related events that brought together African citizens to strategize sustainable development plans for the continent. ACF will once again be organised in 2008. It is a platform for discourse on African Citizens development.
RESEARCH AND ADVOCACY
ACDF is also involved in research and advocacy that promotes leadership development in Africa, encourage appropriate technological growth and education that fosters sustainable development as well as true human development for reinventing good governance in Africa.
AFRICAN CITIZENS PARLIAMENT (ACP)
African Citizens Parliament is aimed at reversing the tragic effects of indiscipline which breeds disorderliness and corruption, poverty and bad governance through a social dialogue amongst citizenry. ACDF facilitates the convocation of Citizens’ Parliament that will deliberate from time to time on critical national and continental issues and forward its communiqué and memorandum to the appropriate government for consideration and probable action.
